Annual herbs, acauline, up to 22 cm long, glabrous. Leaves all in a basal rosette, sessile, 1-6 cm x 0.6-1.5 cm, spathulate to oblanceolate, glabrous, base attenuate, apex obtuse, margin entire. Inflorescence usually a dichasial cyme arising from a rosette of basal leaves, spreading, up to 15 cm long, scapes slender, glabrous; peduncle and pedicels wiry, stiff, pedicels up to 1.4 cm long; bracts ovate-oblong, 1-2 mm long, scarious. Flowers small, bisexual, actinomorphic, hypogynous, nearly white. Sepals 5, free, pinkish white, 2-3 mm x ca. 1 mm, 1-veined, oblong, mucronate, imbricate, persistent, often with transparent scarious margins, spreading during anthesis, persistent and connivent in fruit. Petals absent. Stamens 3-5, free; filaments ca. 1 mm long, anthers 0.15-0.2 mm long, subglobose, bithecous, dehiscence longitudinal. Carpels 3, syncarpous; ovary superior, subglobose, ca. 1.5 mm long, 3-locular, obscurely 3-lobed, ovules many per loculus, placentation axile; style absent; stigmas 3, short, curved. Capsule globose or ellipsoid, nearly as long as persistent sepals, dehiscing by 3 valves. Seeds numerous, black, shiny, subreniform, granulose, minutely strophiolate, 0.5-0.7 mm.
